Detailed description of Kings Crossing Golf & Country Club, CLOSED 2009

Kings Crossing Golf & Country Club, formerly a private course is now a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Kings Crossing Golf & Country Club opened in 1986. The course was designed by Bill Coore.

The 18-hole course measures 6,742 yards from the back tees. Ladies tees measure 5435 yards.

Sixteen of Kings Crossing's holes have sand bunkers and seven of the holes have water hazards. The bridge that crosses to #10 is to be seen, and the two cart tunnels that riders must pass through make the back nine memorable.

The beautiful homes of the King's Crossing Community line the fairways on fourteen of the holes. Greens are Tif-Eagle Bermuda and roll fast for greens in South Texas.

The course was voted "Best of The Best" by the readers of the Corpus Christi Caller Times newspaper in 2004, 2005 and 2008.

Tee times are not required but recommended. Guest fees are available to non-members, the course is open to the public.

Kings Crossing golf course closed at the end of July 2009, opening the possibility of housing development on the approximate 220-acre facility.

Kingley Properties, owned by Basil Beck, purchased the golf course and country club property in April 2005 from Shell Land Management and Oso Creek Properties, without restrictions after the first three years. The three years expired August 1, 2009.

The property is zoned as a single-family or multiple-family dwelling district. The president of the Kings Crossing Hoeowners Association Inc., which claims 1,344 members, would not comment because the association is involved in litigation with the owner.

Kings Crossing is no longer private, but is now a Semi-Private course. So for a few dollars more than a municiple course you can play it. It is seldom crowded except for early Saturday mornings. The course has a nice layout and they are building membership in the club which is translating to dollars to spend on the course. They are currently installing a new irrigation pump so the fairways and greens should be improving. We have had little rain here in South Texas and you can tell by the dryness of the course. Overall, it is still fun and improving.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby
